The footage then appears to show the Kalibr cruise missile being fired into the sky from the submerged submarine.

The video then cuts to what appears to be a missile hitting its target over 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) away.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday, 3rd March, along with a statement claiming: “The crew of the diesel-electric ‘Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky’ submarine of the Pacific Fleet, as part of a combat training plan, launched a Caliber cruise missile from a submerged position in the Sea of Japan.

“The missile was fired at a coastal target simulating an enemy firing position. Before launch, the submarine secretly occupied the area designated for firing.

“At the estimated time, the Kalibr missile successfully hit the designated target at the Surkum tactical field located in the Khabarovsk Territory. The firing range exceeded 1,000 kilometres.

“The closure of the missile firing area was provided by ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet, as well as aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles of naval aviation.”
