Russian cops have been slammed after two teenage girls who turned up to report they had been raped at knifepoint in the street were fined for breaking the coronavirus lockdown.

The shocking incident took place in the city of Krasnoyarsk in southwestern Russia’s Krasnoyarsk Krai when two girls aged 17 and 18 told police they had been raped.

The two young women had reportedly been walking down the street when a man armed with a knife reportedly robbed their mobile phones and jewellery, threatening to kill them.

The attacker then reportedly forced the victims to have sex with him before fleeing the scene. The two teenagers went to the nearest police station and reported the shocking crime.

However, when they filed their report the officers reportedly decided to fine them both for violating Russia’s quarantine regulations.

The amount the girls were fined is unclear, but breaking the quarantine carries a maximum fine of 1,000 RUB (11 GBP).

Representative of the Regional Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said that the young women were not supposed to be outside at the moment they went to the station, leading to the sanction.

The officials said the girls’ statement on their attack had been taken, with a 56-year-old suspect later arrested.

The suspect, who reportedly has a criminal record, was also fined for breaking quarantine whilst the rape case is under investigation.

Netizen ‘Dmitry Ovsyannikov’ said: “Those cops are idiots!”

‘Larisa Ustinova’ wrote: “I am ashamed by such policemen. This is horrible!”

While ‘Anna Mogilina’ commented: “They should sue these law enforcement officers because those idiots do whatever they want.”

No internal investigation into the incident has been reported.
