This is the moment a runaway lorry tyre crashes into a six-year-old boy holding his mum’s hand on the pavement leaving the youngster fighting for his life in intensive care.

The incident occurred in the Arnavutkoy quarter of Besiktas province in Istanbul, Turkey and was recorded by another driver who was recording the runaway tyre from behind.

In the video, the tyre can be seen rolling down a road and picking up speed when it hits a kerb.

The tyre then starts bouncing towards six-year-old Dogukan Agim who is standing on the pavement holding his mother’s hand.

The boy cannot move out of the way and the tyre bounces up at him, hitting him in the head and sending him crashing to the ground.

Local media report his mother and onlookers called an ambulance which took him to a hospital, where he was placed in an intensive care unit.

His father Gokhan Agim said his son was severely injured in the incident and he said they did not know where the tyre had come from.

He said: “Either somebody let the tyre go downhill or it simply detached from a lorry, we don’t know yet.”

The police have launched an investigation into the incident but no arrests have been reported.
