This is the moment a runaway cow is seen charging down a road during a 24-hour rampage after seven tranquilliser darts failed to stop the bovine in its tracks.

According to reports, a bull and cow were sharing an enclosure in the municipality of Almenara in the province of Castellon in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia when both animals, which were being used in a traditional Spanish festival, managed to break out.

The bull was caught within a few minutes, but the cow managed to evade its captors.

The cow then went on a 24-hour rampage through the streets and nature spots of the municipality before being lassoed by local cattle breeders Javier Barberan and Ximo Faet, according to reports.

Before being caught, members of Spain’s Nature Protection Service and Civil Guard reportedly shot the cow with five tranquilliser darts which had little effect.

Reports said they then shot the cow twice more with an elephant dart gun which still did not stop the runaway bovine.

The authorities also used two drones to monitor the cow’s movements during its 24-hour rampage.

Local mayor Estibaliz Perez thanked everyone involved for helping to capture the animal.

No one was injured during the incident and an investigation has been launched to determine how the animals escaped.
