This footage shows a Royal Australian Air Force aircraft providing valuable air-to-air refuelling support in South Korea during a military exercise.
The images were obtained by Newsflash from the Ministry of Defence of Australia, along with a statement that said: “The KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport crews refuelled jets from the US Pacific Air Forces, the US Marine Corps, and the Republic of Korea Air Force, providing essential training to allow our air forces to work together in the future.”
The footage shows the large Australian airliner meeting the KF-16U fighter aircraft from the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) in mid-air and making a smooth fuel transfer as part of Exercise Vigilant Storm 23.
The complex flight operation was a ‘first-time-ever’ for the Australian and Korean Air Force, after joining up for an exercise that “fuels relationship”, the Australian Defence Ministry said.
Exercise Vigilant Storm 23 is intended to strengthen combined air operations and it was held by the United States and South Korea as part of several routine exercises.
It involved about 240 aircraft conducting 1600 sorties, and this year witnessed “the integration of fifth-generation air combat aircraft with existing fourth-generation aircraft,” according to the Defence Ministry.
