A German AI expert has said that sex with robots will be no different than being intimate with a real person in 50 years’ time.
Prof. Dr Oliver Bendel, 52, is a German expert on information systems with a focus on cyber ethics and security at the FHNW Higher Education College in Windisch in Switzerland.
Bendel told the German tabloid Bild: “I see no problem with men or women having sex with a doll or a robot every now and then. We won’t be able to notice any significant differences between humans and robots in 50 years’ time.
“I see a possibility of people having one-night stands with robots without realising that it was a bot.”
Bendel added: “Things will get problematic when humans start assuming they are having a serious relationship with a highly developed robot. These bots have no feelings, they aren’t really interested in anything. They are nothing. They are fake.”
Bendel explained what makes sophisticated sex dolls and robots interesting for many individuals: “Love dolls and sex robots are available anytime. We don’t have to negotiate with them or ask them for a favour.
“They are physically attractive and fulfil certain stereotypes such as a slender waist, big breasts and voluminous buttocks.”
Bendel, whose latest book Soziale Roboter (Social Robots) was released in November 2021, added: “Shy young men often opt for today’s highly-developed sex robots. But many men of all age groups also want to avoid the various complications and stress of human relationships.
“When they are with women, they feel an obligation to function and the pressure to perform. These men are scared of not getting an erection. Sex robots make no demands, they won’t make fun of you.”
Bendel said the latest generation of sex robots can move their mouth and eyebrows, and that their voice assistant capability is immensely attractive to many customers.
The researcher added: “Some young men are attracted to sex robots designed like characters from manga books, anime movies and cosplay events. Such robots are available in some sex bot brothels. They are fascinated by experiencing these fictional characters in reality.”
