This is the moment a bus passenger stabs a robber armed with a gun twice in the back after he and his accomplice held up the driver and stole his takings.

The dramatic incident was caught on the CCTV security cameras on board the bus in the city of Barranquilla in northern Colombia’s Atlantico region.

The footage shows two robbers get onto the bus at a stop when one of them pulls out a handgun and demands the bus driver’s takings.

He hands a bag to the driver who passes him a handful of notes and coins. Apparently satisfied with their haul, the two thieves turn around to walk back off the bus.

But just then, a passenger sitting near the front of the bus, retrieves a small knife from his backpack and quickly stabs one of the robbers twice in the back.

The man, wearing a black cap and a white shirt, then calmly sits down again while the thieves carry on walking. They managed to flee the scene with their ill-gotten gains.

However, police later managed to identify and arrest both men. One was taken to a medical clinic so he could be treated for his injuries.

Police commander Jorge Pinzon said police had been unable to identify the bus passenger and asked him to come forward so cops could take his statement.

The passenger has been praised by online commentators such as ‘NitroNeurona’ who said: “This hero knows how things work. I hope the thief is in agony or suffers the consequences for his entire life.”

However, police urged citizens who witness armed robberies not to intervene but to report the incidents instead.
