The victim has been named as Seira Fuchigami and her unnamed 33-year-old dad told the police in Osaka Prefecture that he had left home at about 8am on Saturday morning (12th November), with his three children.

When he drove back to the school, in the city of Kishiwada, at around 5pm to pick his children up, staff there reportedly told him that little Seira had not been at school all day.

He then searched his vehicle and found his daughter unconscious, according to the police.

The young girl was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors determined that she had died of heat stroke.

The police established that the father had dropped off his oldest and youngest daughters at a different nursery school before returning home.

The nursery school did not contact the father to inform him that his daughter had not arrived that day, according to local media which also stated that the city of, Kishiwada has a rule that parents need to be contacted when a child is absent without permission.

The investigation is ongoing.
