Maza captioned the picture: “River, give me something to be happy about, for my mother who is in heaven.”

Maza was seemingly referring to the match River Plate had the next day against Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores semi-finals.

Maza received so much criticism that he took the photo down the following day, however netizens that saw it did not forget about it.

The image shows a re-post of the fan’s picture along with a slight towards Maza from one of them.

The post says: “For you, the worst parts of this tweet are: 1- that you would ask for something because of your dead mother. 2- that you went to her funeral in a River sweater. 3- that you took a picture at the funeral. 4-t hat you are a River fan.”

It is unclear if Maza was at her funeral at the time the picture was taken.

The re-post received several comments slamming the fan’s actions, such as ‘faltodeoficio’ who wrote: “5. Believing that your mum is in heaven when she is in purgatory paying for having raised a son like this.”

‘quecogand’ wrote: “Football does marvellous things and it makes our lives a little happier; this guy is wrong in the head.”

‘kafuvalen’ wrote: “The balls to do this.”

River Plate won the Superclasico 2-0 which was the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-finals. The second match will be played on 23rd October to decide who will advance to the final.
