This is the moment a farmer standing in a flooded rice field is struck by a sudden bolt of lightning and collapses instantly.

The video dated 24th April shows the motorist driver between rice paddies when the silence is broken by a loud roar of thunder.

At the same time, the bolt of lightning can be seen striking the farmer who is standing in the flooded field in the town of Chengjiang, which is in Taihe County in East China’s Jiangxi Province.

He collapses immediately afterwards, but the villager seemingly goes unnoticed by nearby farmers and only one woman can be heard crying out after the freak accident.

Footage taken by a witness in the aftermath of the incident shows the farmer lying motionless on the edge of the rice paddy, his body having been retrieved from the waterlogged field.

A spokeswoman for the local town government confirmed that the farmer, whose name and have have not been disclosed, died as a result of the lighting strike.

She said: “The farmer lost his life. It was an accident.”

The spokeswoman added: “The local government sends out weather warnings for every region, but not every area pays close attention to them. Or maybe they didn’t notice.”
