This 21-year-old student has died after he climbed on the roof of a train during a night out and was electrocuted while two pals who rushed to save him were spared a similar fate as the power cut off.

According to local media, the young victim, identified as Ognjen Cuk from the city of Subotica in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, was waiting on a railway platform with pals during a night out.

Reports said that Cuk suddenly decided to climb onto the roof of a freight wagon and was instantly electrocuted.

In that moment, the entire train station was left without electricity, which potentially averted further tragedy when two friends also climbed on the train to help the victim.

A station spokesperson said: “Luckily, the power did not return for around 30 seconds otherwise they would have died as well.”

The victim’s friends called the emergency services, but nothing could be done to save the 21-year-old student.

It is unclear whether Cuk was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

It is also currently unknown why he decided to climb onto the train’s roof.

A family friend told local media: “He was a very good lad, we are all in complete shock.”

The family suffered another recent tragedy when Cuk’s half-brother was killed in a traffic accident, according to reports.

Netizen ‘Mesec’ commented: “His friends could have stopped him from the crazy stunt. Terrible. Condolences to the family.”
