Hard-up Russian waiting staff have taken to the streets to hold a naked protest calling on the government to allow their businesses to reopen following the COVID-19 lockdown.

Bar and waiting staff of several restaurants in the city of Krasnodar in the western Russian region of Krasnodar Krai reportedly took to the streets naked while holding a sign covering their genitals that said: “When will this end?”

Representatives of the Lui Bidon restaurant shared a snap with several workers posing naked in the street with the sign alongside the caption: “Dear friends, we are on the edge. We need your support and awareness for the problem.”

Restaurant employees told local media that their venues are still closed to the public due to the lockdown measures and that they are desperate to get back to work.

Restaurant owners, disgruntled that certain shops and beauty salons will reopen on 23rd May, have called on the regional authorities to provide a date of when they can reopen their businesses, according to reports.

Local restaurateurs said: “We are about to scream in despair! Please understand, we have remained silent for a very long time. The entire industry is going through a very difficult time.”

According to reports, other bar and restaurant owners in the region have joined the initiative and have started organising their own naked protests too.

Local media said that only 30 percent of food and catering firms managed to continue work during the lockdown.
