RESCUERS’ HEARTBREAK: Little Girl Found Alive And Still Hugging Mum’s Dead Body After Deadly Landslide

Rescue workers were heartbroken when they rescued a little girl still alive and hugging her mother’s dead body after a landslide onto a busy road that killed at least 34.

The tragedy – which also killed her brother and several other children – happened after heavy rain in Risaralda Department in Colombia, on Sunday, 4th December.

Falling earth and rubble buried a bus that had left Cali bound for Condoto on a road in La Cabana – between Pueblo Rico and Santa Cecilia – with 33 on board.

It also buried a car with six passengers and a motorcycle with two riders.

Rescue workers have pulled nine people from the mud and rubble alive, according to authorities.

Heartbreakingly, the nine-year-old girl was found clinging to her mother’s lifeless body.

The moment she was pulled from the debris and loaded into the back of an ambulance was caught on camera and can be seen here.

Risaralda Governor Victor Manuel Tamayo said: “At around 2pm, three people were able to be rescued, among them a girl who was hugging the body of her mother, who is sadly not alive.

“We will continue working to rescue as many people as possible, but the weather and time are against us.”

The girl has been named as Davianni Saray Mosquera.

She was taken to San Jorge University Hospital in Pereira, where she underwent surgery on Monday.

Her paternal aunt, Flor Mosquera, told local media she is recovering well but that the family is devastated at the deaths of her mother, Gloria Cecilia Viveros, and little brother, Thiago Rafael Mosquera.

Empresa Arauca – the company operating the route – said in a statement: “There are no words that can describe the sadness that this kind of event produces and the indescribable loss that this natural disaster has caused, we stand in solidarity with the driver, our passengers, and their families.”

Officials do not believe there are any more survivors. At least 34 – including eight minors – died in the tragedy.

The Colombian Geological Survey has said approximately 5,000 to 10,000 cubic metres of land have moved due to the recent heavy rains in Pueblo Rico due to the La Nina weather pattern.
