A homeowner was left red-faced when they frantically called the emergency services to rid their home of a snake only to find that the would-be serpent was an ‘S’-shaped piece of plastic.

Fire service crew members from Pasir Tumboh, in the Malaysian state of Kelantan, were called to a nearby house after the owner reported a serpent slithering under a curtain as these pictures show.

The emergency crew rushed out in a bid to remove the potentially deadly creature from the scene.

When they arrived they found the beast lying motionless and reportedly wondered if the creature was even alive.

According to local media, the crew decided to grab the serpent by the tail – only to find the deadly beast was in fact nothing more than a curved piece of plastic.

Thankfully, the bemused rescue workers saw the funny side and even shared the tale on social media where it has so far gathered 10,000 shares and hundreds of comments.

In the photos, rescue workers can be seen smiling as they hold the offending item in the air.

It is unclear whether the unidentifed homeowner who made the call will face any sanctions for wasting the emergency crew’s time.
