Russian police have finally discovered the remains of a MP and her family members who were allegedly murdered by a suspected mafia boss seven years ago

The bodies of politician Tatyana Sidorova, her husband, 63, her sister, 64, and her son, 28, (ages at the time of their disappearance in February 2012), have been discovered after seven years of continued searches.

Sidorova was the deputy head of the legislative assembly in the municipality of Ramensky in the western Russian region of Moscow Oblast.

According to local media, the main suspect is Oleg Shishkanov, also known as Oleg Medvedev or by his nickname Shishkan, who is considered one of Russia’s leading criminals.

He has reportedly been one of the leaders of an organised criminal community of Russia since 2010.

Local media said that Sidorova and Shishkanov were business partners for a while, and with his help she purchased a state farm in Ramensky, but that the pair later fell out over the project.

Local police said one possible motive was that Sidorova was unwilling to give up some of her land to the suspected mafia kingpin.

According to reports, her remains, and those of her missing relatives, were buried four metres (13 feet) below the earth in a rural area.

At least two of the corpses had been shot in the head, according to local media.

Shishkanov and eight other suspects are currently being investigated for the murders although it is unclear if they have been charged now that the bodies have been found.
