This is the moment a recovered COVID-19 patient who suffers from a pulmonary condition leaves a Spanish hospital and shows her gratitude to the medics applauding her.
Patient Josefa Galvez was discharged yesterday (Wednesday) by doctors at the Quironsalud Malaga Hospital in the city of Malaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain.
The footage shows the moment Galvez leaves her hospital room as she is applauded by the medical professionals who treated her.
The woman is heard saying: “Thank you very much for your devoted work, thank you from all my heart for giving everything for us”
Galvez told local media: “Of course you get over coronavirus, but I am very tired. They gave me letters from my children, pictures, that gave me a lot of emotional comfort. I will keep them all my life.”
She added: “I am very grateful to all the housekeepers, nurses and doctors. I did not get to know any of their faces but I got to know their hearts. I am very grateful”
Reports said Galvez initially thought she had pneumonia but when she called the hospital they asked her to go to there as she suffers from pulmonary fibrosis, a condition in which the lungs become scarred over time.
“I said I did not want to disturb them but I had been bad for 14 days. When I explained how I felt they told me to go there.”
Galvez reportedly suffered head and stomach aches, diarrhoea and hypothermia during her stay in hospital. She told local media: “The medication is very strong I felt strong stomach pain, I could not stand seeing light, I was in the bathroom all the time, you feel how you are losing your life.”
Now she that she has defeated the virus she will have to be isolated for two more weeks at home.
“I have felt a lot of fear but I am very grateful. I want to say to people in hospitals to have faith, you can get over this.”
