Reckless Audi Driver Films Self Driving At Nearly 200mph

This is the moment an Audi driver films himself hitting speeds of nearly 200mph on a South African motorway leading to his arrest.

The incident was filmed on a motorway in the northern South African province of Gauteng and the video was shared on Twitter by netizen ‘Yusuf Abramjee’ where it has been viewed 207,000 times.

Transport minister Fikile Mbalula welcomed the arrest of the Audi TTS owner in a statement on 26th January.

Reports said that the 36-year-old man had been driving his red Audi at speeds of up to 308kph (191mph) in a 120kph (75mph) zone.

A spokesperson for the transport department said: “Officials from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) used various investigative techniques to identify, locate and arrest the suspect.

“The alleged speedster, who resides in (the city of) Midrand, was tracked down at a funeral in Limpopo by undercover investigators.

“He faces charges of reckless and negligent driving as well as related charges in terms of the National Road Traffic Act.”

The investigation is ongoing.

In the footage, the Audi driver is seen starting off at 253kph (157mph) before eventually hitting 308kph (191mph).
