This recently retired footballer has died after he fell out of the window of a fifth-floor flat while fixing a blind.

Local media report the 33-year-old was repairing the blind of one of his windows in his apartment located on the fifth floor when he fell and landed on the pavement on Moravska Street.

He reportedly still had vital signs after he fell, however, he died shortly after arriving at the hospital. It is unclear which hospital he was taken to.

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Panchevo made a statement which read: “The victim has fallen from an apartment on the fifth floor. He was living there with his father.

“Toxicology tests have been ordered, which are standard procedure for cases like this.”

The victim’s sister Bojana posted on her social media saying her final goodbye to the player, writing: “Goran was a successful athlete, a great father, devoted son and grandson and the best brother who was also my protector.

“He took care of our family more than anyone. There is just one thing he did not possess and that was fear. He is my hero.”

Markovic played for several clubs in Bosnia but made it to his first top-flight team with Serbian side Cukaricki Stankom, making 54 appearances.

He eventually made his way to the Bosnian top-tier where he won the Bosnia-Herzegovina Football Cup in 2010/2011 and the league in 2011/2012 with Zeljeznicar Sarajevo.

After several transfers, he retired last year with the Bosnian second-tier side NK Metalleghe.
