Former Real Madrid shot-stopper Iker Casillas has told fans how he is itching to return to the pitch within months after suffering a heart attack earlier this year.

During a media presentation for Spanish third division team CF Pozuelo for the new season in Pozuelo de Alarcon in Madrid this Tuesday, Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, 38, made the comments to local media.

Casillas was at the event as his Fundacion Casillas (Casillas Foundation) recently formed a partnership with the club.

He addressed his rehabilitation process assuring fans: “I am good after four months and 23 days. I have the days counted out.”

Casillas has been off the pitch since suffering a heart attack during a training session in early May 2019.

He continues to contribute to Porto by acting as a player liaison with the backroom staff.

Casillas told local media: “I am getting my physical form back, it is not a slow process but people that have suffered a heart attack know that what really harms you is the medication.

“I hope to play again but if there is a risk, then I will not take that risk. If things go well then we will make a decision together. Right now, we have to wait and just keep with the rehabilitation process.”

Casillas added: “From now until March I will meet with my doctor” and a decision might be taken as “the physical recovery is fast but the process is slow in the moment of making decisions.”

Casillas was reportedly fitted with a coronary stent, a tube-shaped device placed in the coronary arteries to supply blood to the heart and keep the arteries open during the treatment of heart disease.

Despite experts claiming his career would be over after the operation, Casillas continues to hint at his return later this season.
