The footage shows a fully equipped operating room with doctors ready for an operation while water pours in through the ceiling.

A patient can be seen lying on a stretcher without clothing but it is unknown what medical procedure he was about to undergo.

A doctor whose name has not been reported can be heard saying: “That is how we are today.”

The Director of the Regional Helth System of Madre de Dios (DIRESA) Ronald Tello Acosta confirmed to local media that the leak was due to the heavy rainfall that has hit the region this week.

Tello Acosta also confirmed that the rain caused damage to the medical centres of Nuevo Milenio and La Union.

Reports state the rainwater also leaked in the corridors of the hospital Santa Rosa with hospital staff using brushes to clear the water and clean the mess.

The hospital facilities are 35-years-old and they are at risk of collapse, according to local media.

No people have been reported injured.

The hospital facilities are under maintenance work to waterproof the ward while heavy rains have been forecast until 24th January by the meteorology services.
