QUICK SINKER: US Air Force Demonstrates New Weapon System By Destroying Sea Target

This impressive compilation shows a mock enemy ship being obliterated in a violent explosion during a test trial for a new US Air Force weapon.

Dubbed ‘QUICKSINK’, the weapon is a Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) meant to provide a low-cost defeat of targets at sea.

In a test run carried out in the Gulf of Mexico, US Aerial Forces filmed the successful singly-shot destruction of a surface vessel.

Two different camera angles were able to capture the moment from both afar and near, with one recording the demonstration from the air and the other on the target ship.

The US Air Force said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Loose lips sink ships, but the QUICKSINK System does it faster.

“This system is a new low-cost, air-delivered capability for defeating maritime threats.”

QUICKSINK is intended to have an immediate effect on stationary or moving maritime targets with the help of a newly-developed Weapon Open Systems Architecture (WOSA) seeker.

The new seeker, designed at the Air Force Research Laboratory, is the system’s key component, allowing it to perform precision targeting of maritime surface vessels and launch torpedo-like strikes from the air.
