These amusing images show Chinese care home residents once again being allowed to sit in the open under the sun after being put into quarantine one month ago because of the coronavirus.

The 59 residents of the Caima home for the elderly in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province in East China, have an average age of 80 and are among the group most vulnerable to the coronavirus.

As the outbreak of COVID-19 surged in mainland China and reached every region of the country within weeks, the care home was put on mandatory lockdown on 26th January.

Pensioners living in the home were ordered to wear surgical masks before being confined to their individual rooms for a full month.

Visitors were forbidden from seeing family members living in the care home too, reports said.

On 24th February, the 59 residents were finally allowed to leave the building to get some much needed sun, and staff members prepared individual seats for them in the complex’s car park.

Chairs were put in empty visitor parking bays with a distance of between 5 or 6 feet between them, allowing the pensioners to talk to one another while still maintaining a safe distance.

Amusing images from the care home car park show the pensioner fully cooperating with the new outdoor policy as they sit obediently in their own seats under the sun.

Yu Guohua, member of the residential committee, told local media: “They stay in their rooms all day and night.

“Even outside they’re not allowed to gather together, so we utilised the empty car park.

“We put one chair in every parking space for them to sit on.

“It was the idea of one of our coworkers. It’s a pretty good idea.”

COVID-19 has killed more than 2,700 people in mainland China, with more than 78,000 confirmed cases.
