Scots-born Scott Forrest is charged with battering victim Robert Robson to death with an oxygen cylinder.

Police in Doha seized 43-year-old Forrest over the gruesome killing on the Seafox Burj offshore oil rig on 12th December.

His court appearance next Tuesday (21st February) – say local media – will be his first since the grim rig bloodbath.

Forrest – from the village of Maud – is facing the death penalty if convicted and if there is no appeal for clemency from the victim’s family.

Forrest, Robert, and a third colleague – Christopher Begley, who was injured in the incident – were contract workers for firms Stapem Offshore and Film-Ocean.

The horror is said to have unfolded when Forrest struck Robert, 38, on the head with an oxygen tank in their living quarters on the rig in the Persian Gulf.

When Christopher stumbled upon the chilling sight of Forrest attempting to get rid of Robert’s body, the accused is said to have struck him on the head with a pipe.

Injured Christopher was taken to hospital by air ambulance and flew back to his hometown of Coatbridge in Scotland days later.

Forrest, meanwhile, was remanded in custody in Qatar.

Robert’s family described him as “a loving partner, dad, son, brother and uncle who was tragically taken too soon”.

Tuesday’s court hearing is the trial’s first, with a judgement expected at the end of this year.

On an online fundraising page for the victim’s family, Tom Stanton wrote: “Hi guys and girls, let’s get this sent about the industry, let’s pull together and take some of the financial stress off the family during this horrific time, we stand together with them and we have there backs!

“All of us can help, no donation too small, let’s get this done before Christmas, too try allow his family to grieve in their own time and not worry about anything else but trying to love some kind of a normal life again one day, there’s no right words for this situation, but let’s show our support in anyway we can”.

At the time of writing, it had smashed its goal of GBP 10,000, raising GBP 25,848.
