Vladimir Putin has flexed his military muscles by testing Russia’s self-propelled artillery system which can fire nuclear ammunition.

The military tests took place in the Kuzbass region, in south-central Russia’s Kemerovo Oblast region and saw the 203-mm self-propelled artillery systems 2S7M Malka tested.

In the video, soldiers can be seen loading the weapons in thick snow before the guns are fired.

The artillery system emits a warning beep before it fires to alert the soldiers to stay away from the weapon.

The 2S7M Malka is an advanced version of the 203-mm self-propelled artillery systems 2S7 Pion used in the Soviet Union.

It is capable of firing nuclear ammunition and has a range of 37,500 metres, but this can be extended to 55,500 metres by using Rocket Assisted Projectiles.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said the tests were successful and improvised targets were hit from a range of 30 kilometres (19 miles).

Representatives said: “During they shooting the soldiers have used a new technique of fire destruction: enemies were attacked one by one from the open firing positions, using a hinged trajectory.”

Netizen ‘Nikolay Kovalenko’ said: “So much power in it. Amazing.”

And ‘Denis Dreyt’ added: “Ouch, I wouldn’t want this being targeted at me.”

Joseph Stalin famously described artillery as being the “god of war”.
