This is the moment guards chase after a drug smuggler cat that tries to get into the prison.

The incident was filmed by a prison CCTV camera in the south-western Russian republic of Tatarstan where guards managed to catch the feline with what was reportedly hashish attached to its collar.

According to reports, the cat ran through the entrance and into the prison yard, right in front of patrolling guards.

The video shows the officials chasing after the moggy which was later caught. The substance found attached to its collar has been sent for examination but appears to be hashish, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the feline is currently under the care of the local authorities who have yet to decide what to do with it.

After stopping the cat, the guards reportedly caught two men suspected of being its handlers and they are being detained in a preventative prison, according to local media.

It is believed that the cat was trained by an inmate over a period of time who then released it into the care of recently-released pals.

The cat was then reportedly starved by the ex-cons for several days before being sent back into the prison with the drugs so that it would intentionally look for its owner.

The investigation is ongoing.
