This is the moment cops casually arrive at the motel room of a prison-breaking gang leader where they politely knock on the door and catch him in bed with his girlfriend before leading him away.
The startling scenes were recorded by police officers in the city of Sao Vicente in the southeastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo as they were searching for Adrian Jefferson Santos Silva Lima, 25, who had been wanted since September 2017 when he broke out of Penitentiary II of Sao Vicente.
Local media report officers had been looking for Lima in the Vila dos Pescadores area in the neighbouring city of Cubatao which forced him to flee the area and he put himself up in a motel.
In the video, an officer can be seen rolling under the shutter leading to Lima’s room and surprising him at the window, saying “police, police”.
The gang leader can be seen lying in bed with his girlfriend and the cops tell him to open the door.
He does what they ask and leaves the room with a cigarette in his hand wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt.
As one of the cops begins to handcuff him the officer recording slaps the cigarette out of the criminal’s hand.
Lima is then forced to sit on the floor as his girlfriend watches on sitting on the edge of the bed.
Local media report Lima, known as ‘Pelicano’ (Pelican) is one of the local leaders of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (First Command of the Capital, PCC) criminal organisation. Reports state he has a criminal record for drug trafficking and robbery.
The PCC is, according to a 2012 Brazilian Government report, the largest Brazilian criminal organisation with almost 20,000 members, 6,000 of whom are in prison.
