This pretty young woman has tragically died after she was badly burnt in an explosion reportedly caused when she lit up a cigarette while refilling a lighter in her kitchen.

It is believed that she was making a business of refilling used lighters in a clandestine factory in her kitchen, and there was a large amount of fuel that was then ignited when she lit a cigarette.

Thais Ostroski, 24, was badly injured in the accident inside her home in the Brazilian city of Curitiba on the night of Wednesday, 9th June.

Another person was also burnt in the accident that saw the police and then firefighters come to the scene after receiving reports of a fire in the building.

The explosion was so powerful that it even damaged water pipes and blew tiles off the roof onto neighbouring houses.

According to news site Massa News, the kitchen, which operated as a kind of clandestine lighter factory, was completely destroyed in the blast.

The same news site reported that Thais inadvertently caused the explosion while lighting up a cigarette while refilling a lighter.

The young woman was taken from the house in the neighbourhood of Sao Braz to the Hospital Universitario Evangelico Mackenzie in a critical condition with burns to 50 percent of her body.

According to Massa News, she suffered burns to her airways and had to be intubated. Despite battling for over a week, she succumbed to her injuries on the night of Monday, 21st June.

The young man who was also badly injured in the accident remains in hospital. His health status has not been divulged.
