This pretty 18-year-old girl whose father works in England to support their family has been brutally raped and murdered at her home with a 17-year-old suspect arrested for the killing.

Andrea Rumenova was beaten, raped, killed and robbed at a home in the village of Galice in the municipality of Byala Slatina, in north-western Bulgaria’s Vratsa district.

Local media report her alleged attacker, 17-year-old Aksel Olekov, is believed to have entered the home through an open basement window as she was sleeping in her bed.

He then allegedly woke her up and offered her sexual intercourse, which she refused. The pair reportedly began grappling with the suspect allegedly hitting her with a metal stick in the left temple before choking her until she became unconscious.

He is then suspected of undressing and raping her before grabbing a kitchen knife and allegedly killing her in fear that she would speak out about what had happened.

Local media report the girl was punched in the neck and had her throat slit.

The suspect allegedly took the girl’s wallet and left the scene before throwing the knife away on his way home. Reports claim the suspect bought himself new trainers, gloves, a speak and a tablet with the money he had allegedly stolen from the dead girl the night before.

He was arrested a day after the murder, with reports stating he confessed to cops without showing remorse.

Local media report the girl’s father Asen Rumenov and locals are protesting as the suspect will be tried as a minor and therefore faces a prison sentence of between five and 12 years if found guilty.

Her father had reportedly sent her 300 BGN (131 GBP) a day before the murder from England, where he has been working for four years.

He has now returned to Bulgaria after hearing of her death and told reporters: “People are sympathetic to my pain. My child was killed in the most brutal way. If I didn’t have another child, I wouldn’t want to live. I had to work abroad to support them. The state is chasing people. There is no security here.”

He says he spoke to Andrea every day, adding she was a great daughter, friend, and student.

According to local media, Andrea was living with her uncle because her mother had left them years ago, and her father and older brother Rumen Rumanov needed to work in England to support the family.

The case is ongoing.
