Pregnant Women Killed In Germany By Drunk Mercedes Salesman In Horror Motorway Smash

Two pregnant women have been killed when a drunk Mercedes salesman who was dating the daughter of the showroom boss smashed into their Skoda in his almost new vehicle on a Berlin motorway.

Pregnant Lydia, 32, and friend Julia K., 28, were killed in the car accident on the B 96a motorway near the German capital Berlin at 8.11 pm on 10th July.

According to the news site Bild, Lydia was seven months pregnant with her first child while Julia, who was in a same-sex marriage with her partner of 11 years Tina, had been artificially inseminated two days before the fatal crash.

The same-sex couple hoped for a daughter while Lydia and her partner Florian O., 33, were expecting a baby girl and had all the necessary preparations including the clothing and the nursery ready for the birth.

However, the suspect in the case, identified as 23-year-old Vincent R., a Mercedes salesman from Berlin, was drunk while driving a Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG at speed on the motorway, according to prosecutors.

He reportedly had at least 1.1 per mille of alcohol in his blood and it is unclear how he had ended up behind the wheel of the car which costs EUR 70,000 new. He was reportedly living with the daughter of the boss of the Mercedes showroom where he worked.

Lydia was driving the Skoda with her partner in the passenger seat and Julia and Tina, who got married in June 2020, in the back.

The group of friends had been shopping in the town of Brandenburg when they were returning to Berlin on the motorway.

According to Bild, the Mercedes entered the motorway at excessive speed and first hit a Ford Fiesta.

The Mercedes, which was only registered in January 2021, then crashed into the Skoda.

The car span off the motorway, clipped a tree and ended up in a field, with one side of the car completely ripped away like a tin can, as seen in the images.

Florian recounted the moments after the crash: “Lydia was still wearing her seatbelt, but she was practically outside the car.”

“She was still breathing, but only very shallowly.”

Lydia was also left hanging outside the damaged Skoda while Tina was conscious and in considerable pain after breaking several ribs.

Florian, who works as a train driver, freed himself from the wreck and pulled Tina free.

He then called the emergency services and went to his unconscious partner’s side to beg her: “Wake up Lydia, wake up.”

Paramedics arrived on the scene and treated Florian and Tina for their injuries while only confirming the deaths of the two women seated on the other side of the car.

Meanwhile, Vincent R. and his 31-year-old companion, name not disclosed, tried to flee the scene on foot, but were promptly caught by the police, according to Bild.

Public prosecutors are investigating Vincent R. for negligent homicide, causing a road accident as a result of drink-driving, and fleeing from the scene of an accident.

A trial date has not yet been set.

Florian, Tina, and Lydia’s mother recently visited the accident scene to leave flowers for the two deceased women.

They told local media that “the driver should be put behind bars for life” and that the suspect’s actions equated to “murder”.

Florian said that his unborn baby “had no chance”, adding: “The umbilical cord was torn during the accident. All I have left of her is the ultrasound scan. I look at it every day.”
