These images show the waters of a Russian river have turned emerald green and local media are blaming a power plant for the change in colour.

The waters of the Obyasneniya River which runs into the Golden Horn Bay near the city of Vladivostok in south-eastern Russia have turned green.

Local media report the change in colour has raised concerns over the water affecting the fish population of the Golden Horn Bay, which is in the Sea of Japan.

Reports have blamed a nearby central heating power plant for the change in colour as the plant discharges industrial water into the river.

Representatives from the power plant have denied the allegations, stressing there were no emergency situations at the facility.

They said the power plant does not use any chemicals that could have discoloured the water in such a way.

It is unclear if an investigation has been launched.

Local resident Vladimir Boyko claimed that it is not the first time that the river’s waters have changed colour.

Netizen ‘M B’ said: “Did they manage to find those who are in charge of this?”

Another one ‘Ignat Ivanov’ added: “Poor river, poor people, what on earth have they dumped in it?!”

While ‘Aleksandr Georgievich 71’ commented: “Oh boy… everything will die in this water.”
