This is the shocking moment an animal catcher lassos a cat by the neck and then reportedly throttles it to death after being employed by posh residents to clear the area of strays because of cat poo in their gardens.

The incident was filmed in the city of Hyderabad in the southern Indian state of Telangana after residents of a gated community in the suburb of Tolichowki hired a team of animal catchers to rid the area of stray cats.

According to reports, the catchers choked the felines with steel ropes before placing them in sacks and disposing of their bodies.

Neighbours were upset that the cats kept defecating in their gardens, according to local media.

The images were shared online by the Humane Society International/India (HSI/India) who also reported the incident to the Police Director-General and the community association.

NGO spokesperson Alokparna Sengupta criticised the community’s reaction to the cat-poo problem and added: “The community could have easily contacted an animal protection organisation to seek help in a humane manner.”

Local police spokesperson K Chandra Shekar Reddy said that they have not received a formal complaint about the incident yet.

However, as the NGO’s letter was sent to the Police Director-General, they expect to receive instructions soon.
