Porcupine Causes Massive Explosion At Electrical Substation, Causing Power Outages In City

This is the moment a panicked local resident films an electrical substation exploding in flames after a porcupine caused a short circuit in a transformer.

The incident took place in the city of Anapolis in the Brazilian state of Goias at around 11.30 pm on Saturday, 23rd October.

The electricity company Enel has since confirmed that the porcupine caused a short circuit in a transformer, resulting in the explosions and fire seen in the footage.

The man who filmed the video can be heard saying: “A fire’s breaking out here at the station. Jesus, it’s all blown up.”

A photo taken at the scene in the aftermath of the incident shows the dead animal responsible lying on the ground beside the transformer after it was found by a technician.

No one was reportedly injured in the incident apart from the porcupine, which resulted in power outages in several neighbourhoods of the city in the early hours of Sunday, 24th October.

Some residents in neighbouring municipalities were also affected, and flashes in the sky from the explosions were seen for miles, as seen in several videos filmed by residents.

When local media reported the story on Sunday, power had already been restored to all affected residents.

Enel said that a mobile substation had been put in place to replace the affected transformer until it is fixed.
