This is the moment a poor myna bird tries to fly away after being tied to a laundry pole outside her flat window by a woman – reportedly as a warning to other birds not to enter her kitchen.

The incident took place in the town of Yishun in the island city-state of Singapore and the footage was shared on social media by ‘ACRES: Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore)’ where it has been viewed 32,000 times.

According to reports, the animal rights NGO received a call informing them that a myna was hanging from a laundry pole outside a flat window and went to rescue the poor bird.

The association said on social media: “Our rescue officers were shocked to learn from the unit’s resident that the myna was deliberately hanged from the pole to teach it (and other mynas) a lesson so they can ‘learn’ not to enter her kitchen.”

They added: “The myna was assessed for injuries and given some water and food before being released.”

According to local media, the unnamed woman was advised that she had committed an act of animal cruelty and was told how to remove birds from her home without resorting to hanging them.

Reports said that the National Parks Board are investigating the incident.
