This is the moment two mischievous monkeys who escaped from a zoo give cops in a patrol car the run around for several hours as they try to catch them and take them home.

Locals in Kharkiv which is the second-largest city in Ukraine raised the alarm after spotting the two monkeys running around freely.

The cops, who had been warned about the breakout from the nearby zoo, then turned up but it took several hours to finally collar the two monkeys.

The chase included officers following the animals with patrol cars along the road and chasing them through gardens.

They were also followed by enthusiastic locals who filmed the scenes and posted the images online.

The zoo said that they had 12 mangabey monkeys and raised the alarm when they realised that two had escaped.

Zoo spokesman Alexei Kostyuchenko said: “The first monkey was returned within a few hours, the second after dinner.”

The zoo said however that they were unsure how the monkeys had managed to escape from their cages and they are carrying out an investigation in order to make sure it did not happen again.
