Police Sting At A Hotel Sees 124 Robbers Arrested

This is the police sting in a hotel that has seen 124 suspects arrested and 10 guns seized as cops dismantled a huge armed robbery gang.

The operation was carried out by the National Police on Sunday at the Red Hotel in Punta Negra District south of the Peruvian capital Lima. The gang were allegedly using the hotel as a bunker to plan robberies among other unspecified crimes.

According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs, long-range weapons, laptops, radios, ammunition and six cars were seized. Drugs violations were also reported at the scene with the suspects arrested on suspicion of planning armed robberies.

Local media report 124 arrests were made including 114 Venezuelans, four Colombians, and six Peruvians, with 80 men and 44 women.

General Commander of the Police, Jose Luis Lavalle Santa Cruz, who led the operation, said: “As soon as the police force entered the place, they tried to escape and use their firearms, but were overwhelmed.”

Reports state 38 officers participated in the police operation and all 124 detainees were taken to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the National Police.

The alleged members of the criminal group will be investigated for illegal possession of weapons and other crimes.
