Turkish cops have arrested a man for killing this stunning 21-year-old woman after she was found hanged at home with his DNA under her fingernails and on her clothes.

Forensic experts said that Aleyna Cakir, 21, probably fought with her boyfriend before she was found hanged in an apartment in the Turkish capital Ankara on 3rd June.

Police added that DNA testing also confirmed that there was the suspect’s sperm on her body, further tying him to the tragic death of the young woman.

Forensic experts also said that although found hanged, the injuries she suffered that caused her death did not appear to indicate that they occurred from hanging.

Umitcan Uygun, 22, said he went for a meal with her on the day she died, but then left her apartment before going drinking with a friend.

The police have been accused of dragging their feet over the case because the suspected killer’s father, Durak Uygun, is reportedly well connected, and there have been several pictures of him with important people including the interior minister posted online.

However, the police have rejected claims they are dragging their feet because of the father’s political connections. They said the delay was simply because they have not yet had the results of the DNA test back although three months have now passed.

They added that they are also trying to establish whether Uygun, believed to be Cakir’s lover, was also in the apartment when the young woman died.

The first report from 8th June, five days after the incident, stated that there were two people in front of the apartment building before the victim died, while a second report three months later said there was only one.

Prepared by two officers reviewing the CCTV footage, the first report said that Cakir died around 1.05am and two people were seen getting out of a white car and walking towards the building.

Over three months after the victim’s death, a second report was carried out based on acquired statements and CCTV footage that showed Cakir was the only person in front of the building on the night in question.

Umur Yildirim, the lawyer of Cakir’s family, said the following: “In the statements of Umitcan Uygun, he claimed that he never met with Aleyna on the day of the incident, that he did not even enter the house, did not have sexual intercourse.

“Now we have seen that the statements given by Umitcan Uygun did not correspond to reality. We expect the prosecutor to file charges against Umitcan Uygun.”

The investigation is ongoing.
