This pretty Italian teenager has lost her leg when she was hit by a car after pushing her friend to safety and the friend is now raising cash to pay for her treatment.

Chiara Memoli, 18, created the fundraiser to help her best friend, Giulia Moscariello, 18, and pay for her medical expenses following the accident which occurred on 31st July in Nocera Superiore, a commune in the south-western Italian province of Salerno.

Giulia had to have her leg amputated after sustaining serious injuries when she pushed Chiara off a wall they were sitting on to save her from an oncoming car which then hit her instead.

Writing on her GoFundMe page, Chiara said: “We were sitting on a low wall when suddenly we were hit by a car. Giulia, sitting next to me, was the first to realise the danger and pushed me, saving me from the dramatic impact.”

Chiara added that although she was unharmed, Giulia suffered an injury to her left leg and the doctors had to amputate it in order to save her life.

According to the news outlet Fanpage, the accident happened in Nocera Superiore. The girls were sitting on a low wall near a McDonald’s while waiting for their parents to pick them up from a party.

Chiara added: “Giulia is 18 years old, she still has a life ahead of her and dreams of doing many things and I want to make sure that she can take her life in hand, make all her dreams come true and to express my gratitude for her heroic gesture.”

The fundraiser has attracted more than 47,000 EUR (42,000 GBP) in donations so far, surpassing the 40,000 EUR (35,910 GBP) target in just four days.

According to the local news outlet Il Messaggero, the young man who drove the car is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office of Nocera Inferiore.
