This is the startling moment plane passengers are forced to open their umbrellas mid-flight to protect themselves from the water dripping on them from the ceiling.

The incident occurred on a flight operated by Rossiya Airlines from the city of Khabarovsk in the eastern Russian region of the same name to the resort city of Sochi, located in the western region of Krasnodar Krai.

In the footage, passengers can be seen with their umbrellas opened during the flight as others wipe the ceiling to try to stop the water dripping down onto them.

A woman’s voice can be heard saying “shame on this country and the airline”.

Several passengers wrote on social media that the water dripping inside the plane appeared to be condensation from the air conditioning.

The Russian News Mail news site report Rossiya have already launched an investigation into the incident.

The same site reports a representative of the airline said no official complaints or statements have yet been filed by passengers.

Rossiya is a Russian airline which is 75 percent owned by Aeroflot, the flag carrier of Russia.

Rossiya, which flies to 121 destinations, was created in 1992 and was previously government-owned before it was taken over by Aeroflot in 2011.

Netizen ‘Denis Kosmachev’ wrote on VK: “I wonder how this aeroplane reached its destination?!”

‘Elena Zaykina’ commented on VK “well, on the other hand, over 77 percent of Russians voted that they are satisfied with the current state of affairs in the country,” referring to the result of the Russian 2020 Constitutional Referendum held in late June.
