This is the last picture of a teenage girl and her friend seen smiling together for a selfie shortly before they climbed into a car and were killed after the driver taking them home following a night out lost control while allegedly speeding.
The accident took place on Safak Street in the district of Selcuklu in the Turkish province of Konya at around 4am on 22nd August.
According to the news site DHA, Mehmet Demirel, age not disclosed, was driving when he lost control of the vehicle, hit the central reservation, and overturned in the road.
Three people in the car with him were killed. They were named as the pair who were seen in the photo, Aybuke Ece Isik, aged 19, and her pal Narter Kuyucu, 22, as well as another friend named Hasan Yazar, 21, who all died in the crash.
Demirel, who was driving, was taken to the Necmettin Erbakan University Meram Medical Faculty Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
The bodies of the three victims were taken to the morgue of Konya City Hospital and handed over to their families after their autopsies were completed.
Reports said the group of friends were on their way home after enjoying a night out together.
Narter was a student at Yeditepe University’s IT department, Hasan was a student of English at Maltepe University, and Aybuke was waiting for her results after sitting her final exams in the summer.
The police said the driver was speeding at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, the funerals of the three friends took place on 22nd August.
There have been no further updates on the driver’s condition.
