An investigation has been launched after these photos allegedly showing human blood being poured down a hospital sink and into the public sewer network were posted online.

Romanian Deputy Emanuel Ungureanu, 41 shared the two pictures he said were from a hospital in the Romanian capital Bucharest which he reportedly sent to the Minister of Health Victor Costache, 45, who has promised an investigation.

The photos show a hospital sink with a red liquid inside. One of the images appears to show the blood was washed from the sink with tap water.

Ungureanu said the photos had been taken at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital and minister Costache said an investigation will be launched and that “very harsh” measures would be taken if the claims proved true.

Costache added: “The procedures must be followed. We need to see what happened at the University Hospital that it came to such rule violations. We don’t exclude that there can be some other similar cases too.

”They don’t have the right to do this (pour blood in sinks). Everyone has to respect the right procedures and we will be very scrupulous while investigating the case.”

Ungureanu claims that the blood poured into the sink reached the sewage system and posed a serious danger to human health.

A group of specialists from the Health Ministry are currently holding an investigation while the manager of the hospital, Adriana Nica, 41, said an internal investigation has been launched to find out who was responsible.

Both investigations are ongoing.
