This is the moment a have-a-go-hero helps a policeman catch a thief by running the crook over with his scooter.

The unnamed victim found the thief, surnamed Gao, and his accomplice stealing cigarettes from his corner shop, with the pair then bolting out onto the street after having been caught red-handed.

CCTV footage from the city of Chuzhou in East China’s Anhui Province shows the two crooks splitting up and running in different directions.

Off-duty policeman Bai Longfei, who was on his way home, encounters the theft and can be seen giving chase as the suspect runs into a street market.

As the cop cuts through the stalls in an bid to catch the crook, the corner shop owner suddenly speeds into view on his scooter and heads straight for the thief.

Before the officer can reach Gao, the victim runs the crook down by crashing into the back of him, falling off his scooter in the process.

Officer Bai said: “I had chased him for about 200 metres (656 feet) when the victim appeared on his scooter and rammed the thief.”

“He and I detained the suspect together,” Bai added.

Authorities revealed Gao to be a serial thief who had been wanted by police.

The whereabouts of his accomplice are currently unknown. He remains in custody as further investigations continue.
