This is the moment a top Italian pianist plays a beautiful melody atop a boat as he floats down a Venice canal.

Italian musician Paolo Zanarella put on the special performance on 16th May as life in the tourist hotspot returned to normal with restrictions being lifted following the COVID-19 lockdown.

In the clip, a backdrop of famous Venice landmarks can be seen as he floats down one of the city’s canals.

As he passes, passersby can be seen looking in awe at the beautiful performance that is happening before their very eyes.

Many can be seen filming the spectacle using their mobile phones.

However, despite the return of some people to the streets, the area is still eerily quiet compared to how it was before the COVID-19 lockdown began, when the streets were packed with tourists.

Many businesses including shops and restaurants opened across Italy on 18th May as restrictions were eased although it is currently not possible for Italians to travel between different regions of the country.

Travel between regions is set to begin on 3rd June.

Meanwhile, the Mediterranean hotspot is also set to re-open to European tourists on the same day in time for the summer season.
