A Swiss football star known for her dazzling form both on and off the pitch has warned fans not to label her “sexy”.

Croatian-born blonde Ana Maria Markovic, 22, has told how she loves her unofficial title as ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Footballer’’.

But she draws the line on any attempts to bill her as the female game’s “sexiest” star.

Ana Maria, a winger with Super League side Grasshoppers and the Croatian national team, told Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten: “I like articles that call me the most beautiful footballer – or one of the most beautiful – because it makes me happy to hear that I’m beautiful.”

The star – who boasts nearly 600,000 followers on Instagram – added: “But then there are newspaper articles describing me as the ‘sexiest’ player in football.

“That doesn’t sit well with me. Also, because of my family.”

After hitting the headlines around the world, the Croatian forward claimed she has been contacted by a number of fake agents and managers.

Markovic told 20 Minuten: “After that, a lot of people wrote to me and pretended to be managers, but I know exactly what they wanted from me.

“They had never seen me play football and only looked at the outside.”

She added that she enjoys posting saucy snaps on social media for her growing fanbase, but will never pose nude.

Markovic said: “I recently posted some provocative photos, but I would never pose naked anywhere. I couldn’t live with that.”

After completing her university bachelor’s degree, the young winger, who cites Cristiano Ronaldo as her “absolute favourite player”, said she hopes to play women’s football for a top European club like Chelsea.
