A court has heard how a boyfriend made his girlfriend wear tights and a blindfold during sex so that she could not tell that his hairy-legged friend was raping her as he watched.

The plan was hatched by the 28-year-old woman’s former boyfriend – a former auxiliary police officer, who has not been named – who invited the second man to have sex with his girlfriend after telling her he wanted her to wear a blindfold.

Once the blindfold was in place, he first had sex with her himself, then let the other man, identified as 23-year-old Srihari Mahendran, into the room and he also had sex with her with her believing it was her boyfriend. They left the TV on at the time in case he made any sounds that gave the game away.

The High Court in Singapore heard that the young woman thought it was her boyfriend having sex with her, and that the stunt was repeated several times until she at one time became suspicious, and pulled off the blindfold where she was shocked to find the other man in the room.

The incident where she discovered what was going on and called the police occurred on 29th April 2016 at Hotel 81 Bugis in Robertson Quay, a popular tourist attraction along the Singapore River.

Srihari Mahendran faces 10 charges of various sexual offences including four of rape against the woman, who was 26 at the time.

The former boyfriend has already been jailed for 19 years and 11 months for his part in what happened and now the other man in the threesome is on trial. The former boyfriend was not named in order to protect the identity of the young woman.

He was in court to give evidence against the second man where he admitted: “He was concerned that his legs were hairier than mine and was worried that it might give it away.”

That was when the former boyfriend suggested wearing tights.

When the woman called the police, DNA swabs were taken which reportedly confirmed that a second man had had sex with her. The woman’s former boyfriend said he carried out the alleged attack because he fantasised about watching another man have sex with his girlfriend.

He said they had started engaging in soft bondage practices after they had been inspired to do so by watching 50 Shades Of Grey. However, when the idea of the threesome came up, the woman reportedly refused.

The man now on trial had met him a year earlier online when he was 20 and then they allegedly come up with the idea of the threesome by deceit.

The court heard how Srihari had to describe himself to his online friend so that they could work out if they were similar enough, saying he was of average build and of Arab descent. He also reportedly sent him a picture of the lower half of his body.

In preparation, Srihari agreed to be silent and to refrain from smoking.

Questioned by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Yiwen regarding whether he knew he was committing a crime, he said: “It wasn’t at the top of my list of priorities at the time.”

The sex was also recorded by the ex-boyfriend who also groaned at the same time so his girlfriend would think it was him having sex with her, the court heard.

The case continues with the next stage involving the recordings being played in court.
