The bizarre incident occurred in the city of Miri, in north-eastern Malaysia’s Sarawak State when the alleged underwear thief was caught by his neighbours.

Local media report the man, who has not been named, was caught stealing underwear by the residents of a compound and they held him until the police arrived.

In the photos, the man can be seen holding an item of women’s underwear in his right hand after he was caught and reports state he had been stealing bras and knickers for some time.

Local media report the suspect “is addicted to sniffing women’s underwear” and he was taken in by police before being released and told not to steal any more underwear.

A spokesperson for the local residents’ security committee told reporters that the 23-year-old stole women’s underwear from his neighbours’ washing lines whilst cycling around the streets.

It is unclear if the suspect was charged by the authorities before his release.

Miri is located near the Malaysian border with Brunei on the island of Borneo and is the second largest city in the state of Sarawak.
