People Run Up Escalator To Escape Shopping Centre Brawl

This is the moment shoppers flee in all directions including the wrong way up an escalator in a packed shopping centre after a gang fight broke out.

The battle between Colombian and Venezuelan gangs which saw two people arrested took place on Sunday in the shopping centre Plaza Norte, in the district of Independencia, in the Peruvian capital Lima.

Rocio Carnero, a witness who was in the shopping centre at the time of the incident said that some of the shops closed due to the panic as they believed it was a shooting.

Manuel Galvez Romero, head of the police division North 2, said to local media that the shooting never happened, only a brawl between those two rival gangs.

According to him, the fight between the gangs started outside the shopping centre but the Colombians went into the building where the fight continued, sparking chaos among shoppers.

Netizens shared clips of the panic in the shopping centre as people are seen running away in panic and shouting.

Some of the shops closed and officers attended the emergency.

In another video, cops are seen running around the shopping centre holding weapons before catching some of the suspects involved.

Two people, identified as Leonardo Melo Cortes and Edwin Santiago Chavez Manrique, of Colombian nationality, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to local media, the gangs were allegedly carrying blades during the fight.

One of the suspects was taken to a nearby hospital after suffering head injuries although his current condition has not been reported.
