This is the moment tragic parent parents save their young son during a top-floor apartment blaze but then both die after apparently falling from the window afterwards.

According to local media, police are baffled because the apartment’s locked front door was barricaded with furniture on the inside.

The flat fire took place in the village of Novo near the town of Ramenskoye in the western Russian region of Moscow Oblast and an unnamed seven-year-old boy was saved by his parents, according to local media.

In the footage, the boy is seen being carefully lowered to the ground from the top-floor window of a block of flats by rope being supported by his dad.

A crowd of onlookers screams as the dad climbs out of the window and appears to let go of a woman’s hands before plummeting to the ground.

The camerawoman screams again as the mother apparently jumps from the window.

According to local media, both parents died from their injuries.

Reports said the unnamed father was killed at the scene while the boy’s mother succumbed to her injuries in hospital the next day.

The local authorities have confirmed they are trying to establish the cause of the fire.

It is unclear who is caring for the seven-year-old survivor since his parents’ deaths.

Netizen ‘Misterxxx’ commented: “The firefighters could have raised the staircase quicker, they appear to move like tortoises.”
