A 20-year-old woman who battled with cancer and depression after losing both her legs and three family members in a short space of time has died in a car crash.

A number of Nisreen Helal’s friends shared images and stories of the brave young woman on social media, revealing that she suffered with depression after losing her mother, brother and nephew in quick succession.

She even managed to struggle on despite suicidal thoughts, posting in one social media post: “I apologise for what is about to happen. Please pray for me because I am tired in an indescribable way.”

She added that she was “really alone” caused by the “death of my mother, the death of my brother, the death of my nephew, and the countless problems in my life”, and that she had contemplated ending her life.

The posting and her life circumstances led to speculation that she had died by suicide but a family friend confirmed that it was a tragic accident that happened while she was heading back to university.
