Pair On Motorbike Zapped Dead By Fallen Power Line

Two people have died after coming into contact with a fallen power line while riding their motorbike along a dirt track on a Colombian island.

The incident took place around 4pm on 17th February on Tierra Bomba Island off the coast of Cartagena in the northern Colombian department of Bolivar.

The two victims have been identified as 26-year-old Eder Jose Jimenez Cordoba and 20-year-old student Eyisell Moncaris Chavez.

According to local media, Moncaris Chavez had to go back to her university to get some documents signed and Jimenez Cordoba, her sister’s boyfriend, agree to take her on his motorbike.

On their way to the university, the motorbike touched a 13,200-volt power cable that had recently fallen onto the dirt track, according to reports.

The contact caused an explosion and both victims were reportedly electrocuted and killed instantly. Their bodies were retrieved from the scene shortly afterwards.

Moncaris Chavez’s aunt Esther Salcedo told local media: “Power companies are not taking care of their lines. They fall, they warn us and then don’t come to fix it in time.

She added: “This power line fell three days ago.”

Reports said that both the police and the power company are looking into the incident.
