A former top prosecutor is to go on trial after he was caught on camera grabbing a “cute” seven-year-old girl in a lift and kissing her on the lips as he left after visiting his own daughter.

Police say Nguyen Huu Linh, 61, told them he only hugged and kissed the girl affectionately because she was “cute” and there had been no sexual intent to his actions in the lift of a block of flats in southern Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

CCTV security camera footage shows Linh follow the girl into the lift, as a security guard swipes his electronic card to let them use it.

Linh appears to be preoccupied with his phone but as soon as the lift doors close behind the guard, he grabs the girl, bends down to her level and appears to kiss her on the lips.

Clearly shocked the child frees herself from his embraces and stands by the lift door ready to step out.

The man is seen putting an arm around her again from behind but she wriggles free and runs off as soon as the sliding doors open.

The girl told her parents what had happened and they reported the incident after checking the CCTV footage.

Linh, who was visiting his daughter at the block of flats, was later arrested in his home city of Da Nang where he is a lawyer and a former deputy director of prosecutions.

Prosecutors charged him with sexually assaulting a child and it has now been confirmed he is to go on trial where he will face up being jailed for up to three years if he is convicted.
